NSW Rego Check
NSW Rego Check
In New South Wales, drivers of motor vehicles travel over 49,696 million kilometres each year. This statistic includes buses, motor bikes, trucks and cars – and it’s an indicator of the high stakes of road safety in NSW. The Government body responsible for road safety in NSW is the NSW Roads and Maritime Services.
However, the responsibility of road safety does not just fall on the NSW RMS, but on individuals driving on NSW roads as well.
Drivers are not only responsible for their own actions, but for knowing the history of the car that they are driving.
An easy way to understand the history of a motor vehicle you’re looking to buy second hand – or to check the history of an unfamiliar car you are planning to drive – is to run a NSW rego check.
The registration check includes:
- Rego expiry date
- Vehicle details, such as model and type
- Registrations restrictions
- Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurer details
- Registration status
How do I run a rego check in New South Wales?
All you need to run a NSW rego check is the car’s rego number, or the VIN number. You can then run the check online via the NSW RMS website- http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/.
Where can I find the VIN? (link to pop up document (see below)
Why should I check my registration?
Understanding the history of the vehicle is an important step in ensuring the safety of yourself, your passengers and any other drivers and passengers on NSW roads. It serves as a potential indicator as to any safety issues. You can find out whether the car has been deemed as a “write-off” and also whether it’s had an unusually high number of owners.
Not only is it dangerous to drive an unregistered car, but it’s also illegal and carries heavy penalties – including financial fines and loss of license.
You can be held personally liable for any injuries or damage caused if a car isn’t currently registered, as this renders the CTP insurance void.
